EMS Unlimited Brings Pulsara to Its Crews, Starting at Fort Leavenworth Oct. 1

RIFLE, Colo. — EMS Unlimited is bringing Pulsara to its crews. Starting Oct. 1, paramedics and EMTs at Station 334 on Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, will use Pulsara, a secure, HIPAA-compliant communication platform, to send patient reports, 12-lead ECGs and arrival alerts from the ambulance straight to the receiving care team. Aurora and Hamilton County, Nebraska, come next, and then the rest of the company's operations in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Arizona and Montana.

Why It Matters: Sharing Patient Information Before Arrival

In most of the country, a report from the ambulance to the hospital still goes by radio or phone. A paramedic gives a short verbal summary while driving or treating the patient. Someone at the emergency department writes it down and passes it along. By the time the patient comes through the ambulance bay doors, the details may have been retold two or three times.

Pulsara takes that relay out of the process. For each patient, the crew opens one secure "patient channel" on a phone or tablet. Everyone involved in that patient's care, from the paramedic in the back of the ambulance to the emergency physician, nurses and specialists at the destination, sees the same information at the same time. Crews can add:

12-lead ECGs and photos: A cardiac monitor tracing, a medication list or a photo of the scene, sent securely from the field.
One-tap alerts: Early notice for time-sensitive emergencies such as STEMI, stroke, trauma and sepsis, so the right team is waiting when the ambulance arrives.
Live ETAs: The receiving facility can see when the unit will arrive.
Audio and video calls: Crews can consult online medical direction or a receiving physician from the ambulance, including in rural areas far from a hospital.

Pulsara reports that its customers have cut treatment times by 22 to 68 percent for time-sensitive emergencies. The system also sends outcome information back to EMS crews, so a paramedic can learn what happened after handing off a patient. Radio reports will not go away. EMS Unlimited crews will still use them when a situation calls for it, or if the technology fails.

“On a critical call, what the ED hears should be exactly what my crew saw in the field. Pulsara gets our paramedics, the ED physician and the specialist looking at the same ECG, the same vitals and the same ETA at the same time. It's a better handoff for the patient, and it keeps our crews in the loop after the handoff.” Ebin Latrimurti, Paramedic and President, EMS Unlimited

Phase One: Fort Leavenworth

Station 334 goes live with Pulsara at 0800 on Oct. 1. Since July 2026, the station has provided emergency medical services on the installation. Before launch, crews completed account setup and train-the-trainer sessions, and the station worked with ZOLL to connect Pulsara to its cardiac monitors. EMS Unlimited has also notified receiving emergency departments and transfer centers in the Leavenworth area about the change.

Phase Two: Aurora and Hamilton County, Nebraska

EMS Unlimited expects to bring Pulsara to its Aurora operations after Fort Leavenworth. The company began 911 service for Aurora in August 2026. It is now working with local healthcare partners and Pulsara's regional team on what hospitals need to receive Pulsara notifications. In a rural county, the nearest specialty center can be a long way down the highway. Knowing in advance which patient is coming, and how sick that patient is, can shape the care the patient gets once they arrive.

Phase Three: Across EMS Unlimited, Including Transfers, Wildfires and Events

After Nebraska, Pulsara will roll out across EMS Unlimited's 911, Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Critical Care Transport (CCT) and Interfacility Transport (IFT) operations. On an interfacility transfer, the sending hospital, the transport crew and the receiving hospital all work in the same patient channel. The critical care team at the destination can see the patient's condition and ETA before the unit backs into the bay.

Pulsara also has tools for mass casualty and large-scale incidents, and EMS Unlimited plans to use them in two other parts of its work:

Wildfire and disaster response: The EMS Unlimited Wildland Medical division plans to use Pulsara on fire and disaster assignments. On wildfire incidents, medical units are often spread across remote terrain, and patients may go to a range of destinations. Pulsara's incident tools let crews scan triage tags or wristbands, group patients under one incident, and give command staff a near-real-time view of patient counts, triage categories and destinations.

Special events: The same incident tools will support EMS Unlimited's special-event medical coverage. The company has provided this coverage since it was founded in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in 2012. At concerts, races, rodeos and festivals, onsite medical teams will be able to track patients from the first aid station to the ambulance to the hospital. If a routine event becomes a multi-patient incident, the tracking system will already be in use.

Tools Crews Already Know How to Use

EMS Unlimited chose a phased rollout on purpose. The company expects crews and hospital partners to learn Pulsara on ordinary calls first, so it is already familiar before a mass casualty incident, a fire camp or a crowded event. For a company that sees every run as a chance to improve, that is how a new system becomes routine, and how crews do it again tomorrow.
